Farmhouse sinks, also sold as butler sinks, show their front face at the bench edge instead of hiding under the benchtop. Most here are fine fireclay, in single and double bowl layouts at 610mm, 760mm and 835mm wide, in gloss white and matte black. Some are workstation versions, with a ledge inside the bowl for boards and racks to slide along. Overflow position is listed per product as left hand, right hand or none, and has to match the plumbing. The cabinet underneath has to be built for the sink: the front rail is cut away and the base carries the weight, which makes it a conversation with the joiner before cabinetry is ordered. Bowl width sets the cabinet size, so the sink is chosen before the run is set out.
