Tiles

A beautiful tile choice is less about finding one perfect look and more about noticing what the room needs. Begin with the surface that will carry the most visual weight, then let the surrounding finishes become quieter or more expressive around it.

Start with the space

Bathrooms ask you to think about water, slip performance, light and scale. Browse bathroom tiles for the whole scheme, kitchen splashback tiles for the wall behind the bench, and floor tiles for surfaces specified underfoot. Outdoor tiles have their own performance requirements, so keep the intended location in view from the beginning.

Choose the material and finish

Porcelain tiles can move from quiet stone looks to glossy colour. Natural stone tiles bring genuine veining and variation, while terrazzo tiles add fleck, movement and a little playfulness. Matte surfaces feel softer and more architectural; gloss catches the light and gives colour extra depth. If the room needs a more contemporary point of view, modern tiles bring warm stone tones, terrazzo movement and expressive mosaics into one easy starting point.

Let colour, shape and scale do the rest

Mosaic tiles build detail, herringbone tiles introduce directional movement, and subway tiles bring a clean rhythm to walls and splashbacks. Large tiles create broader, calmer planes. Start with the feeling you want, then compare the scale in the room rather than judging it only from a screen.

Bring the shortlist home

Place samples where the tiles will live and look again in morning and evening light. A colour that feels quiet on a screen may become warmer beside timber or sharper beside white cabinetry. Compare the grout at the same time, because it can soften the surface or make every shape more visible.

Frequently asked questions

Where should I start when choosing tiles?

Begin with the room and the surface you are tiling. Work out whether the tile needs to suit a wall, floor, wet area or outdoor setting, then narrow the colour, material, finish and scale. Once those practical decisions are clear, the beautiful part becomes much easier.

Can I order tile samples before buying?

Yes. Order samples of your favourites and compare them in the room itself. View wall tiles upright, floor tiles flat, and check each option in daylight and evening light beside the cabinetry, paint, stone and tapware.

How do I know whether a tile suits walls, floors or wet areas?

Check the intended application and technical information on the individual product. Wall, floor, shower and outdoor settings can have different performance requirements, including slip resistance, thickness and installation methods.

What tile materials can I shop at Repubblica?

Explore porcelain tiles and natural stone tiles, along with collections organised by look, finish, colour, shape and size. Each product page identifies the material and intended application so you can compare suitable options.

Can I get help choosing tiles?

Yes. A design consultation can help you compare colours, formats, finishes and quantities across the whole room. Bring plans, measurements, samples and any materials already chosen so the shortlist feels connected to the project.

How should I compare tile colours and finishes at home?

Place the samples where they will be installed and look at them at different times of day. Compare gloss and matte surfaces from several angles, and check every colour beside the finishes that will remain in the room.
