Black Tiles

Black that feels warm, not severe

Black can be surprisingly easy to live with when it has a little texture. Tumbled Nero Marquina gives the colour a softer edge, while honed stone keeps the surface calm and lets its veining do the talking. If you prefer a sharper line, a glossy black subway tile reflects light and brings a different kind of energy to the room.

Choose the finish before the layout

Start with black stone tiles if the natural variation is what draws you in. Subway tiles can run horizontally for a quiet, familiar rhythm or vertically for something more tailored. Kit Kat tiles introduce finer lines, especially lovely around a vanity or kitchen splashback. Zellige & Moroccan tiles bring a more irregular surface, where light catches each tile a little differently.

Build the contrast around it

Pair black with warm white rather than stark white if you want a room that feels inviting. Timber, limestone and brushed metals can soften the scheme too. For a graphic look, explore black and white tiles, but keep the number of competing patterns in check. A dark splashback with pale cabinetry is often enough to make the whole kitchen feel designed.

Think about the place it will live

A black wall tile can be a beautiful choice behind a basin, in a shower or along a kitchen splashback. Floors and outdoor areas ask for more specific decisions: finish, slip performance, exposure and the product’s intended use all matter. The collection includes different materials, so choose by the individual tile rather than by colour alone.

Frequently asked questions

Will black tiles make a small bathroom feel dark?

Not necessarily. Black bathroom tiles can give a small room depth, especially when they sit beside pale surfaces, a mirror and well-placed lighting. A single tiled wall or niche is a lovely way to use the colour without covering every surface.

Are these black tiles all natural stone?

No. The collection includes Nero Marquina natural stone as well as ceramic and Moroccan-look options. Each has its own texture and care requirements, so compare the product details before choosing.

Can black tiles be used on a floor?

Some tiles in this collection can work as black floor tiles, but others are designed for walls. Check the individual tile's area and finish information, particularly for wet or outdoor spaces.

Are black tiles difficult to maintain?

That depends on the material and finish. Gloss can show water marks more readily, while textured surfaces may hold more residue. Use the cleaner recommended for the exact tile, and remember that natural stone can need sealing and stone-specific care.

Do black tiles work on a kitchen splashback?

Black kitchen splashback tiles can be striking without feeling harsh. A glossy subway tile can reflect light and sharpen pale cabinetry, while a textured or handmade-look surface feels softer. Check the individual tile's wall application and care guidance, then compare it beside the benchtop and joinery.

Can black tiles work in a powder room?

Absolutely. A powder room can carry deeper colour beautifully, especially when black tiles sit beside a mirror, pale stone or warm timber. Use them across a vanity wall, splashback or an approved floor, and let good lighting bring out the tile's surface and movement.
