A freestanding basin leaves the plumbing on show, so plan for a bottle trap and tapware that matches the stand rather than the plastic trap used behind a cabinet. Set the floor or wall outlet before the wall is closed up, and allow for a mirror cabinet or shelf, since a stand gives no storage.
