Fireplace surrounds here are built from natural stone fluted mosaic tiles in the Curl range, supplied on 305 x 305mm sheets with a honed finish. Stone options run from pale marbles such as Carrara and Calacatta Gold through to Rosso Levanto, Rosa Travertine, Gris Travertine, Botticino and Utica Limestone, with greens including Taj Green, Verdi Cristallo, Verdi Antigua and Amazonia. The fluted face sits in vertical ribs, so dry lay a run before fixing to keep the ribs aligned across sheets and around the firebox opening. Measure the surround face and the hearth separately, then allow extra sheets for cuts at the corners. Honed stone takes a penetrating sealer, which is worth applying before grouting.
