Shaving Cabinet

A shaving cabinet is a mirrored wall cabinet that puts storage behind the glass, so the mirror above the basin also holds what would otherwise sit on the vanity top. Cabinets are either surface mounted, where the box stands proud of the wall, or recessed, where it sits inside the stud cavity and finishes closer to flush. Recessing is decided before the wall is lined, since the cavity has to be clear of studs, pipes and wiring at that point. Width is worth setting against the vanity below rather than the wall. Door swing matters too: an open door has to clear the tapware, any wall light and the shower screen beside it. Depth is worth checking against the vanity below, so the cabinet does not overhang the basin.
