Tangier Tiles

Zellige-inspired character in an Italian porcelain tile

Tangier is designed around the visual qualities people love in traditional Zellige: gloss, colour variation, softened edges and a surface that changes with the light. The material itself is porcelain, which gives the range a more consistent body and care routine than a handmade Moroccan tile. For a broader comparison that includes handcrafted pieces, browse Zellige and Moroccan tiles. For other finishes and formats, explore porcelain tiles.

Use the 100mm square as a quiet design grid

The 100 x 100mm format gives Tangier a clear, ordered rhythm, while the non-rectified edges stop the grid feeling rigid. A grout colour close to the glaze makes the surface read as one field of colour. A little contrast brings each square forward and gives the wall a more graphic mood. Compare it with other square tiles, then ask for a sample panel with the proposed joint width. Corners, niches and power points should be included in the set out rather than solved at the end.

Choose a colour that earns its place in the room

Ivory, off white and grey let the gloss and edge variation do the talking. Caramel and terracotta warm up pale stone and timber, while aqua, sky blue and petrol blue sit beautifully with brushed metal. Warm green and deep green feel especially good beside oak or walnut. Shiraz and black create a more intimate wall. View at least three colours beside the benchtop, vanity, cabinetry and tapware, then look again after sunset. Glossy colour can shift considerably as the light changes.

Bring gloss and colour to hardworking walls

Tangier is at home among kitchen splashback tiles, where the compact square format works neatly between a benchtop and overhead joinery. In bathrooms and laundries, it gives vanity walls, niches and selected shower walls a lively reflective surface. Browse wall tiles to compare related options, and check the exact Tangier product for the intended location. It is a wall tile range and should not be treated as a general floor tile.

Balance tonal variation before the tiles are fixed

Open several boxes and dry lay a generous group before installation. This shows how the light and dark pieces work together and prevents one patch of the wall looking noticeably different from another. Confirm the adhesive, joint width, grout and edge detail with the installer, particularly around external corners. Because the surface is glossy, clean it with a soft cloth or nonabrasive sponge and a product suited to glazed porcelain. The result should feel varied and relaxed, but still thoughtfully composed.

Frequently asked questions

Are Tangier tiles genuine handmade Zellige?

No. Tangier tiles are Italian-made porcelain wall tiles designed to capture the gloss, tonal variation and softly irregular appearance associated with Moroccan Zellige.

What size are Tangier tiles?

Tangier tiles are 100 x 100mm squares with a glossy finish and non-rectified edges. Confirm current dimensions and carton details on the individual product page before ordering.

Where can Tangier tiles be used?

The range is specified for walls, feature walls and splashbacks. It can suit kitchens, bathrooms, laundries and selected shower walls when the exact product and installation system are appropriate for the location.

Can Tangier porcelain tiles be used on floors?

Tangier is presented as a wall tile collection and should not be assumed suitable for floors. Choose a product specifically rated for the expected foot traffic and slip requirements.

Do Tangier tiles need sealing?

The glazed porcelain face will not usually require the same sealing approach as handmade Zellige or natural stone, but grout and installation conditions vary. Follow the product and installer guidance for the complete surface.

Which grout colour works with Tangier tiles?

A grout close to the tile colour softens the grid and lets the glaze lead. A contrasting grout outlines every square. Test the proposed combination on a sample panel before installation.
