A WARM KITCHEN
with QUIET
CHARACTER
A white kitchen can feel warm, layered and full of life. In Jess Harris’s renovation, the interest comes from the materials: softly uneven tiles, timber cabinetry and a palette that leaves room for each surface to be noticed.
The splashback is a simple square. Its handmade-style finish is what gives it character.

The material story
White tiles.
Something to feel.
Jess chose a 100 × 100 mm Spanish square tile in matte white. The small format creates a gentle rhythm across the wall, while the uneven surface adds depth to an otherwise quiet palette.
Rather than relying on colour or pattern, the splashback lets texture do the work. It sits comfortably alongside the timber, giving the room a sense of warmth without making it feel busy.
“We took inspiration from mediterranean design, and opted for a palette of wood tones below and white above.”

Bring the idea home
Start with the
finishes you love.
The balance is simple: warm wood tones below, white surfaces above, and texture connecting the two. Open shelving and everyday objects make the room feel personal.
For your own kitchen, place a white tile sample beside your cabinetry and benchtop finishes. Look at the combination in daylight and again in the evening. Notice the surface as much as the shade.
Before settling on a tile, ask our team about suitability, grout and the details that will shape the finished splashback.
