A Canberra luxury home shaped by light and stone

Set within Deakin's quiet streets, Halo Haus captures the spirit of contemporary Canberra design. Tundra Limestone tiles flow through each space, meeting brushed nickel accents. Every detail has been resolved with intent and paired with Repubblica's material selections that bring warmth, texture and cohesion to one of the city's most captivating residencies.

Rising quietly in the heart of Deakin, Halo Haus has become one of Canberra’s most significant architectural homes- a masterwork of light, movement, and craftsmanship.

Built by Ben Matthews of Ideal Group and designed by architect Ben Walker, the residence captures a rare synergy between architectural ambition and material execution.

For Repubblica, Halo Haus represents the evolution of a long and trusted collaboration. Founder Bruno Ciancio has worked alongside Ben Matthews and the Ideal Group for nearly a decade - a partnership built on shared ambition and respect for craftsmanship.

“Our product offering has evolved through working with visionary builders like Ben,” says Bruno. “Collaborating on projects of this calibre constantly pushes us to refine what we do - to curate materials and finishes that meet the expectations of Canberra’s most forward-thinking designs, and those beyond.”

Working alongside Ben on Halo Haus was an intuitive and deeply collaborative process. Our role extended far beyond product supply - it was about helping translate a design philosophy into material form. Together, we explored tone, texture, and proportion across every surface, refining each element until it spoke the same architectural language. From the cool tactility of the stone underfoot to the soft, brushed metallics that draw the eye through each space, every selection was curated to complement Ben’s vision and to shape a home that feels as cohesive as it looks.

Now offered for sale through Hive Property, with Director Josh Morrissey, Halo Haus stands as both a design landmark and one of Canberra’s most anticipated listings.

Vision & Design

Architect Ben Walker conceived Halo Haus as a living structure - a home that responds to the changing light and rhythm of the day. Its circular form and striking façade are animated by more than 4,000 motorised aluminium slats, each adjusting to filter light and preserve privacy as the sun moves across the sky.

At the centre, a 13-metre date palm rises through a circular concrete void, anchoring the home’s namesake “halo.” This sculptural moment defines the project - a dialogue between structure and nature, enclosure and exposure.

For Ben Matthews, the project was about more than building a residence; it was about crafting a legacy piece - one that would demonstrate Ideal Group’s precision and attention to detail across architecture, construction, and finish selection. Working closely with Repubblica, every element was considered, refined, and perfectly aligned with the design intent.

1. Meir Round Kitchen Mixer Tap (MK03-PVDBN)

The transition from Tundra Stone indoors to Matteo Grigio pavers outdoors creates seamless flow, visually connecting interior calm with the reflective water surface of the pool.

The Signature Bathroom Moment

Perhaps the most striking space is the curved master ensuite, where light falls from a circular skylight onto walls clad in Tundra Stone Mini Flute mosaics.
Here, Meir Brushed Nickel tapware adds a quiet glow against the stone’s natural grain. The interplay of vertical texture, curved walls, warm metal and natural light has made this one of Canberra’s most photographed bathrooms - featured in HerCanberraRealestate.com.au, and Allhomes as a visual signature of the project.
